About Georgetown, KY - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
The city of Georgetown is located in Scott County, Kentucky in the northern-central portion of the state. Settled as early as 1776 as an army outpost known as McClelland's Fort, the first permanent community in the area came with the establishment of Johnson Station by Robert and Jemima Johnson in the winter of 1783. Initially incorporated in 1784 as the town of Lebanon, Virginia by Elijah Craig, the town later changed its name to Georgetown in honor of President George Washington, becoming incorporated as the city of Georgetown, Kentucky in 1792 when Kentucky gained statehood as the 15th state of the union. Today, Georgetown is home to approximately 30,000 residents and a mixed economy of manufacturing, small business, and agriculture. With its enjoyable seasonal climate that brings hot, humid summers and mild, cool winters, Georgetown is a great place to live or visit!
If you love history, then you will love historic Georgetown! The nearby Buffalo Gals Barn Quilt Trail takes you on a fascinating journey through local lore with its roadside tour through the rural Kentucky countryside, past 22 barns featuring 8’ by 4’ painted replicas of quilting squares that were the brainchild of the Buffalo Gals Homemakers of Stamping Ground. Georgetown’s historic downtown district is home to an impressive array of shops, boutiques, and restaurants, as well as over 300 buildings from the Victorian era listed on the National Register of Historic Places that include the Scott County Courthouse. A tour of the Georgetown and Scott County Museum will afford visitors a look at local history through exhibits chronicling the history of the Cincinnati Southern Railroad and the Civil War, as well as displays of local artifacts, works by local artists, and the String Instrument Makers Hall of Fame. Genealogy and military history buffs will enjoy a visit to the Old Georgetown Cemetery, which contains the graves of at least four soldiers who served in the 10th U. S. Cavalry Regiment, later famously known as the Buffalo Soldiers.
Georgetown is also home to a vibrant cultural arts scene that includes theater, music, dance, and visual arts. For information about upcoming cultural events and happenings in the area, the ArtZone@ArtWorks serves as the programming venue of the Scott County Arts Consortium and has information on everything cultural in Georgetown and Scott County.
